The NGO Banco de Alimentos is a Non Governmental Organization.
NGO’s are characterized as a group of people who
organize themselves for the defense of human rights
and of the environement as private non profit organizations.
NGO’s emerged in the seventies as a response to
the objectives and the dynamics of rising social movements
that wanted to be listened to, as counterpart to the
governments and governmental mislead or unsatisfactory
policies in many segments such as social justice, environment
and peace.
The NGO Food Bank (ONG Banco de Alimentos) has worked
effectively since January 1999. Its objective is
to fight the waste of foods and to minimize the effects
of starvation, enabling a larger number of people to have
access to enough quantity of basic quality food, for
a healthy and well balanced meal.
The NGO Food Bank was founded in 1998, from the initiative
of Luciana Chinaglia Quintão.
