Who receives
Who receives the food: persons who are inactive economically,
which means they do not generate income. The NGO Food Bank
does not give out food in the streets. We have reached these
people through Social Entities who shelter these groups. In
this way we can do a more structured efficient work, for we
leave great quantities of food in the organizations for the
benefit of a great number of people.
The population that we deliver to is composed by chidren
in its great majority, but also old people, and people physically
and mentally handicapped,. The children come from very poor
or ustrucutured families, many of which are abandoned waiting
for a rare contribution. Even if these children are deeply
hurt, these institutions become for them the way to have access
to food and education and a protection against a greater violence:
to live in the streets, be exposed to drugs, beg and be explored
by child work and other forms of abuse.
To register with the NGO it is necessary for institution to
prove its needfulness and to prove that it is functioning
according to the laws. The receiver – institutions must
fill out an entrance form, with information about the public
it attends, the number of people attended, number of meals
served, available equipment for preparation and storage of
food, number of employees who prepare the meals, etc.
The NGO then proceeds with a technical visit to check out
the information given and to know the physical space of the
institution, the people who are attended, their needs and
to evaluate the conditions of the kitchen installations. If
everything is in accordance with the specified needs, a term
of commitment is signed by both sides where the donor guarantees
the donation of food in condition of use, and according to
its availability, and the institution guarantees to use the
food in an adequate way and to attend our program of nutritional
education. The non participation in the trainings , or other
possible violations of the term of commitment, such as for
example to store the food in an unappropriate manner,or to
repass the food outside the institution- means to exclude
the institution from the list.
